Chitty Chitty Bang Bang star Sally Ann Howes has passed away age 91.
The actress, who also replaced Julie Andrews in My Fair Lady on Broadway, died on Sunday 19 December.
Sally's death was announced as The Times shared an obituary for the star, where her acting career was remembered.
The English star was born in London in 1930 to actress and singer Patricia Malone and Bobby Howes.
Her career spanned more than six decades across stage, screen and television.
Sally was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Musical in 1963 for her performance in Brigadoon.
The actress played Truly Scrumptious in the 1968 musical film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
She also replaced Julie Andrews as Eliza Doolittle in a Broadway production of My Fair Lady - which caused her to sky-rocket into stardom.
Despite her success as an adult actor, Sally's career began as a child.
Speaking about her adaption from child star to adult actress, she explained: "When I was making the transition from child to mature actress I auditioned for a role and was asked if I smoked.
"Naturally, I said yes. My father had taught me long before that when a casting director asked if you could do something, you immediately said yes, and if you couldn't you learnt darn fast.
"At any rate, I learnt to smoke for that role and when I finished it, I stopped."
Following Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's success, Sally decided to focus mainly on roles in the theatre.
She undertook roles in productions including What Makes Sammy Run?, The King and I, and Cinderella.
Sally previously opened up on her career, as she told Palm Beach Post: "I would have liked a film career, but I didn't pursue it - I just loved connecting with an audience.
"The theatre is a drug. The problem is that to be remembered, you have to do films."
Sally married Broadway composer Richard Adler in 1958 and adopted his two sons after their mother died.
The pair then split in 1966 and Sally went on to wed Andrew Morgan Maree in 1969 before splitting the next year.
Sally then married Douglas Rae in 1972 and the pair stayed together until Douglas' death in September this year.
