A new agreement will see the Charge My Street EV charging network now compatible with Zap-Pay.

It means those using the 40 Charge My Street charging devices across north-west England have access to a simplified payment option.

Charge My Street becomes the ninth EV charging operator to sign-up for the Zap-Pay system. Just Park, GeniePoint, Motor Fuel Group, Mer and the Revive networks have all joined this year.

Zap-Pay is part of the Zap-Map smartphone app, which allows EV drivers to locate charging devices nearby.

Using Zap-Pay allows payments from a debit or credit card to be made to charging networks via a single account. This avoids the need for drivers to sign-up with multiple operators.

Charge My Street's devices are said to be community-orientated, aimed at allowing those without off-street parking the ability to charge close to home. Village halls, community centres and small businesses are used as charging locations, with profits used to fund more chargers in the community.

The organisation has previously received sponsorship from Innovate UK to install chargers across the country.

Charge My Street will be added to the Zap-Pay system early in 2022, with further announcements to be made once complete.

Daniel Heery, director at Charge My Street, said: "We are delighted to be working with the UK's number one charging map provider. This allows those searching for charge points to find our network of charge points across the country.

"The integration with Zap-Pay improves the driver experience when paying for charging. It allows a seamless transition for those charging at their local charge points as well, when visiting our charge points on their holidays in the Yorkshire Dales or the Lake District."
