Vivian Xu is a London-based potter who designs one-of-a-kind ceramics to 'bring comfort' during difficult days. From beautiful vases to quirky kitchen accessories, her collection of original homewares are perfect if you're on the hunt for something unique.
The first time I played with clay on the wheel was when I was six. My mum took me to a workshop and I threw my first vase there, with some help of course. The vase is still proudly displayed in my parents' house.
Since then, I have loved pottery. It is simply soothing and therapeutic, and I am always fascinated by the transformation process of clay - from a layer of earth to a piece of tableware. I am a potter but I also like the clay and going through the transformation process of giving something purpose.
I enjoy making functional pottery and original works for the home. Some of the pieces I make are tailor-made, while others are designed to be anniversary gifts. In lockdown last year, I spent (and still am spending) so much time at home, and really experienced how a gorgeous home accessory can lift my mood. I hope my work can bring others the same comfort during difficult times.
I've just moved house, so I am not as prepared as I would like to be. At the moment, I have taken a few customers' orders to make personalised gifts. I am also making more cups, as nothing beats a cup of hot chocolate at this time of the year!
