Australia's three largest supermarket chains are launching Black Friday sales for the first time ever, selling discounted e-bikes, paddleboards, smartphones and air fryers alongside their usual array of groceries.
Woolworths, Coles and Aldi have updated their catalogues this week to include a number of robot vacuums, coffee machines, outdoor settings and even an inflatable outdoor pool which can be purchased online and in store from Wednesday November 24.
Aldi recently began offering some of its famous Special Buys online with free delivery, while Coles has launched a 'Best Buys' section of its website and Woolworths has an online 'Everyday Market' with which to sell its wares.
The Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend has become the biggest online sale event in the world as retailers try to capture customers' interests with early Christmas spending.
Australians are expected to spend $5.4billion this weekend, according to the Australian Retailers Association, so it pays for each of the supermarkets to get in on the action.
Where will you be shopping this week?
WOOLWORTHS
Australia's largest grocer is offering discounts on more than 3,000 products as part of its Black Friday deals which will launch at 7am on Wednesday here.
The offers are available only for delivery or pick up on orders placed online from Wednesday 24 November until 23.59 AEDT Tuesday 30 November.
Customers will find 20 per cent off 280 Christmas merchandise products tomorrow, with 50 per cent off brands like Nature's Own, Vege Chips, Finish, Ajax, Airwick, Bonds and Bondi Sands.
The Ninja Professional Food Processor was $249 but will be $124.50 when the sale begins, while the Philips Digital Air Fryer XL was $399 and will be $259.
The Sodastream 'Spirit' One Touch Soda Maker will be reduced to $99 - a saving of $50 - and the Nespresso Vertuo Plus is 28 per cent off at $179.
For cleaning up after Christmas festivities the Mistral Robovac will sweep, vacuum and mop for just $99 - and it runs for an impressive two hours.
One Big Switch's Joel Gibson says it's wise to adopt this three-pronged strategy to avoid getting overwhelmed by Black Friday and buying things you don't need:
1. Don't browse. There's just too much to take in. Make a list of what you need for Christmas or around the home (eg air fryer) and search specifically for those items. If there's something you buy regularly that you can keep and store, look for that too.
2. Use Google Shopping to compare prices quickly and do a general search for Black Friday deals on your items (e.g. Google 'air fryer Black Friday').
3. Once you find a winning deal, take it up via a cashback website like Shopback if possible to get some extra discount, or via some other rewards program, to maximise the kickback.
COLES
Many of the Coles special deals for Black Friday are already available to purchase under the supermarket's 'Best Buy' category.
The grocer has gone tech-heavy with a $549 refurbished Apple iPhone X, a $429 brand new Oppo Reno, and a $399 Samsung Galaxy Watch.
It's also offering $20 off plus free delivery on online orders over $250 if you use the code 'CYBERWEEK' at the checkout, plus 120GB of data for $95 on its long-expiry mobile plan.
In a twist for the supermarket, it is also selling a range of homewares including the Keter Emma Outdoor Four Seater Lounge Set for $499, Market Lane Large Urban Frameless Oval Vanity Mirror for $49 and the Marketlane Set of Three Reyes Round Rattan Nesting Side Tables for $149.
Christmas fanatics will love the Mirabella range of inflatable decorations - including Santa climbing down a chimney for $79 and Santa in his sleigh for $99.
The $55 Seasons Greeting Hamper is also the ultimate last-minute Christmas lunch, complete with a dessert of mince pies, fruit cake and shortbread.
ALDI
In Aldi's typical fashion it's dropping Wednesday special buys this week with a Black Friday theme.
In the store shoppers can pick up a Viomi A9 Cordless Stick Vacuum for $169 - which looks remarkably similar to a Dyson - an inflatable spa ($499) and an electric scooter for $399.
For the kids there will be a $299 water slide, $29.99 pool toy pack and a $14.99 sun lounger.
If you'd prefer to beat the crowds and shop online, Aldi has you covered there too, with a $1,799 e-bike, $369 inflatable stand up paddleboard and outdoor pool for $369.
Each of the online products will upload to the website at a separate time, so as not to overload the system tomorrow.
