Alison Hammond was left a little red-faced after she appeared to 'forget' that Joan Rivers had died seven years ago.

On Friday's installment on This Morning, the 46-year-old television star and her co-star Dermot O'Leary were given a virtual tour around the late star's New York home when Alison appeared to make the blunder.

In the ITV segment, the television presenters were left very impressed after they were given a sneak peek inside the lavish apartment that is worth a whopping £27 million.

While Joan had lived in the penthouse for 28 years, the comedy and television icon died at the age of 81 in 2014.

However, an awkward remark made by Alison did not go unmissed by ITV viewers who quickly took to social media to imply that the presenter was seemingly unaware that Joan passed away years ago.

"What about Joan Rivers? She's got a lovely New York penthouse," Alison said during the show before the tour went ahead.

"Of course, Joan passed away tragically seven years ago and it has since been owned by someone else," realtor Leonard Steinberg reminded the presenters.

While it appears that the presenters quickly moved on from the blunder, viewers took to Twitter to express their thoughts on the awkward moment.

"Alison obviously blissfully unaware that Joan Rivers is actually dead #ThisMorning," penned one fan.

Another added: "Classic Alison talking about Joan Rivers having a NY penthouse, not realising she died 7 years ago! #ThisMorning."

"Ooh, did Alison forget Joan Rivers already passed away? #ThisMorning," wrote a third.

Alison and Dermot have actually been a huge hit on ITV's This Morning after they officially took over from Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford earlier this year.

The duo currently presents the show each Friday, while Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield host the show throughout the week.
