The former Coleraine midfielder, who is currently on-loan at Morecambe, joins the likes of Evans, Charlie Mulgrew, Stewart Downing and Lewis Holtby in being told they will not be retained by the club when their current contracts/agreements are due to expire on June 30th 2021.

Lyons has impressed during his spell with The Shrimps, who take on Tranmere in the League Two play-off semi-final next week.

On a message posted on his official Twitter Lyons thanked Rovers and said he was looking forward to what the future holds.

He tweeted: "Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, and after three great seasons my time at Blackburn Rovers is over!

"Just want to say a massive thanks to Rovers as they were the team to show faith in me and give me the opportunity to play full time professional football.

"To all the staff, coaches and players thank you for welcoming me to the club and helping me improve not only as a player but as a person and I wish you all success in the future.

"On a personal note I can't wait to see what the future holds but for now all my focus is with Morecambe and the play-offs."

Morecambe are likely to be interested in bringing in the 23-year-old in a permanent deal.
