A man has been charged after a gun was allegedly fired and residents were threatened with a taser in a home invasion in Melbourne's south-east.

Police earlier established a crime scene at the Glen Waverley property on Blackburn Road, with investigators combing through the area following the alleged aggravated burglary about 11pm last night.

Investigators allege a 30-year-old man broke into the property and fired a gun, threatening the residents with a taser, before getting into a white car and speeding off.

Witnesses told 9News they heard a "really loud bang" boom from the property.

"I thought it was a car crash or something, and then just a car driving off really fast," a local resident said.

The white car then smashed into another vehicle about 450 metres down the road.

Police said the driver dumped the car, but they allegedly found him in a nearby street, still holding the taser.
