An Alabama father has been charged with manslaughter after his missing baby son was found dead.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) said the body of one-month-old Caleb Whisnand Jr. was found on Wednesday after he was first reported missing at around 10:45 p.m. on Monday.
His parents, Caleb Whisnand Sr., 32, and Angela Nicole Gardner, 28, had pleaded for their son's return during a press conference on Wednesday just hours before the baby's remains were found.
According to AL.com, Whisnand Sr. pleaded for the public to help and said: "I don't remember a lot but I did remember I was breaking up, ya know, with the cops. If anybody's got anything, any places that I could have gone, you know who you are."
He added: "Please, find him please."
Whisnand Sr. said he wanted Caleb Jr. to be found safely and continued: "It would mean everything to us. The family ain't the same without family, that's for sure. It's been taking a toll on everybody."
Gardner, who said she was at home at the time, commented during the same press conference: "He (Whisnand Sr.) went to go pay gas at the gas station and realized he was gone.
"He let the police know, and me know, that he was missing."
MCSO officers said Caleb Jr. was reported missing at the Circle K on Wetumpka Highway and that the baby and Whisnand Sr. were seen together at a nearby gas station.
According to Wave3 News, Caleb Jr's. parents said Whisnand Sr. had gone to pay at the gas station before he realized that his baby had vanished.
Shortly after Caleb Jr's. remains were found, Whisnand Sr. was arrested and charged with manslaughter.
He is now being held on a $100,000 bond at the Montgomery County Detention Center, according to the outlet.
Whisnand Sr. was already under indictment on charges of meth and heroin possession, reckless endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia at the time of his arrest, according to AL.com.
As of Thursday morning, Gardner had not been charged with any crime.
The circumstances of Caleb Jr's. death have not made public by the police.
According to AL.com, multiple authorities took part in the investigation, which included the FBI, the Elmore County Sheriff's Office, the Wetumpka Police Department and the Montgomery Police Department.
The MCSO will hold a press conference regarding the arrest at 9 a.m. (CT) today.
