Carlo Ancelotti hopes that both James Rodriguez and Yerry Mina will be available to face Sheffield United this weekend.

Everton were without the former for both of their last two matches, the defeat to Aston Villa and the win over West Ham United, after he picked up an issue while warming up at Goodison Park earlier this month.

Mina, meanwhile, started against the Hammers at the centre of a back three, but was withdrawn with an injury in the second half of proceedings.

In his pre-Aston Villa press conference, the manager confirmed that both Colombia internationals will miss the trip to Villa Park on Thursday.

But discussing the fitness of Rodriguez firstly, Ancelotti confirmed that he will return to training with the squad later this week and his condition will be assessed ahead of Sunday's clash with Sheffield United.

The Blues boss confirmed: "I think he'll start to train with the team on Friday, after the game.

"I hope that on Friday and Saturday, if he trains properly, he can play against Sheffield United.

"He's pain free now, he has no problem, but he didn't train with the squad and so I cannot put him at risk tomorrow.

"He will train Friday and Saturday, and if he's ok he'll play against Sheffield United."

Meanwhile, Ancelotti confirmed the reason that Mina had to be withdrawn against West Ham United on Sunday.

Thankfully, it seems that the issue will not be serious enough to rule the centre-back out for too long, with a return against Sheffield United also the target for the Colombia international.

"He had a problem on his adductor, it's not a big problem," the Italian added.

"He was out, he tried to train yesterday, but was a little bit uncomfortable. I hope to recover him for the game against Sheffield United.

"If he doesn't play against Sheffield United, he can play in the last two games of the season.

"He has a really small problem, he felt something during the game against West Ham but he stopped before the problem grew.

"He has a little problem on his adductor and he will recover soon - as I said for the game against Sheffield United or the game against Wolves."

Aston Villa, meanwhile, are hoping to welcome Jack Grealish back to their squad for the first time in almost three months when Everton visit on Thursday.

Dean Smith confirmed on Wednesday that the midfielder is not ready to start, but could potentially make an appearance from the bench.

Ancelotti joked: "He's a fantastic player and I advise him, take care after a long injury! Don't risk, stay calm!

"No, I'm joking. He's a fantastic player and we are excited to play against fantastic players.

"Of course, Aston Villa are more dangerous with Grealish, for sure."
