The Suicide Squad will be launching onto the big screen in the UK earlier than expected, as James Gunn's DC movie has scored a slightly sooner release date.

The movie had been due to arrive in UK cinemas on August 6, but Warner Bros has confirmed to Digital Spy that the UK release date has been pushed forward a week to July 30.

It is due for release on August 6 in the US, where it will be released in cinemas and on streaming service HBO Max simultaneously.

The Suicide Squad follows on from 2016's Suicide Squad - although don't expect there to be too many links - with many of the first film's team of anti-heroes reuniting for more chaos.

Margot Robbie returns as Harley Quinn, while Joel Kinnaman will also reprise his role as Rick Flag. Also returning are Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang.

There are plenty of new additions to the squad too, including Idris Elba's Bloodsport, John Cena's Peacemaker, Peter Capaldi's The Thinker and Pete Davidson's Blackguard.

King Shark will be voiced by iconic actor Sylvester Stallone in a brilliant piece of casting, while Guardians of the Galaxy star Sean Gunn is playing Weasel.

The movie's official synopsis reads: "Welcome to hell - aka Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out - even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X."

The squad are then sent on a mission "trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn", with one wrong move potentially enough to end their lives.

Whenever you watch the movie, you might want to make sure you stick around for the credits because director James Gunn has hinted that there could be several post-credits scenes to look forward to.

The Suicide Squad is released in cinemas in the UK on July 30 and is released in cinemas and on HBO Max in the US on August 6.
