A trio of BT Sports pundits launched a debate on the greatest ever Premier League manager following Manchester City's title triumph, putting Pep Guardiola up against Sir Alex Ferguson.

Manchester United's defeat to Leicester City secured City 's trophy, the third under Guardiola, and ticked off another box in the hunt for a treble.

Immediately after the final whistle, praise was heaped upon City and Guardiola for their achievement - snatching the title back off Liverpool to secure a third crown in four years.

While Ferguson achieved long-lasting success at United, an argument began as to whether Guardiola has eclipsed the legendary Scotsman.

Former Leicester man Robbie Savage sparked the discussion, as he stated outright that, in his opinion, Guardiola edges the battle.

"Listen, the reason I'm saying this: Sir Alex, the record he has, but overall, at Bayern, Barcelona and Manchester City - the way teams from the Premier League down to grassroots play like Manchester City," he explained.

"I've never seen anything like it. Listen, he's won trophies with teams he should win trophies with. If he wins the Champions League with Man City, for me, the best ever.

"Especially to think when they lost at Spurs, they were 14th in the table. He then evolved the side, put Cancelo into the team, brought him into a midfield position - a free role - amazing performances. Pep improves players and that side is incredible. For me, the best manager I've witnessed in the Premier League."

That earned a response from Ferdinand, who told Savage to 'get his coat', but then hailed the performance of City over the course of the season.

"You've got to give credit where it's due. Pep Guardiola's men have bounced back, I thought Liverpool were fantastic the season before this and everyone thought: 'Who are going to catch them?'.

"Pep went back to the drawing board, fixed things up at Man City and they came back flying, took the league by storm and deserved champions, definitely."

Capping things off, Joleon Lescott added: " Huge title win for City. We've known it's been coming for weeks now, it's been in their hands for the majority of the season and deservedly so. Great achievement - three titles in four years is massive."
