A peek into the latest from Lennoxtown is something Celtic supporters have long relished in the build-up to big matches over the years.

Whether it be catching a glimpse of a returning player or Scott Brown leading the way in his t-shirt and shorts combo in the rolling East Dunbartonshire hills - it's almost always worth checking in.

Scenes of joy from players and management on the training pitch have been commonplace during an era of historic success that resulted in an incredible quadruple Treble.

But the smiles well and truly disappeared during a disastrous season as rivals Rangers romped to the earliest title in Scottish football history.

Celtic face St Johnstone in their penultimate Premiership match on Wednesday and there were signs of positivity despite all the setbacks.

And maybe that's because for many it's the last laugh at Lennoxtown as they get set to say goodbye to the club they've represented with distinction but behind the grins there will be a tinge of sadness as everything gets set to change.

The presence of managerial frontrunner Eddie Howe still looms large with uncertainty for interim boss John Kennedy and his coaching staff on what comes next.

Record Sport was on hand to look over the best images from the session.

Kennedy enjoys a giggle

And why not? It's easy to think of the interim boss as merely the man who filled the breach after Neil Lennon called time on his Parkhead career back in Fabruary. But, in truth, Kennedy has lived and breathed Celtic for 20 years. It's his club and he's more than repaid their faith in him after he was offered a pathway into coaching following his retirement after battling manfully to overcome the horror knee injury that scuppered such a promising career. Being part of the next coaching set-up cannot be ruled out but there's also a possibility this is the end for Kennedy at Celtic. He's been more than candid about that in recent weeks. Yes, he would loved to have picked up a win against Rangers but the myriad of setbacks certainly aren't his sole responsibility. His role in a trophy-laden era will be fully appreciated when the wounds heal after a season of hurt.

Broony doesn't change

If anyone thought the skipper would be slacking at the back with two games left they clearly haven't been paying attention to his all or nothing approach to training. The dedicated 35-year-old is still pushing the pace during every session. There's no doubt this season has been a disaster for Celtic but his winning traits are still invaluable as he looks to keep inspire his team-mates before his move to Aberdeen. Ryan Kent's flick and tricks beguiled him at Ibrox but it's clear the former Scotland captain will be an asset in the Granite City next season even if his all-action displays will be replaced with a different approach to firefighting in the midfield.

A Chris Goodbye?

The rumour mill first went into overdrive when Ryan Christie's dad Charlie hinted last summer that his son could be tempted with a switch south of the border. And it's certainly more than hearsay a year later for a player who is heading into the final six months of his deal. An exit seems inevitable unless he agrees a new contract but with his old man's previous admission looming large that doesn't appear likely. Christie appeared unaffected by what comes next with the likes of Norwich and Burnley reportedly keen. His penchant for taking a pop from distance have led to pelters but it would be remiss to write off the 26-year-old who is set to have a key role for Scotland at Euro 2020.

Griff seeks minutes

He looked content at training but the Leigh Griffiths must feel a sense of urgency as he knows the time is very much now if he is to force himself into Steve Clarke's thinking before he names his squad for the Euros. In a season that started with Lennon reading him the riot act over fitness worries it would be a shame to see it end as an unused substitute. Griffiths remains a real goal threat when he's on the pitch but he was unable to follow up on his last-gasp equaliser against Aberdeen because he was an unused sub in the 4-1 defeat to Rangers. Irrespective of what has come before it's imperative he gets on the pitch to potentially give Clarke a decision to ponder - especially with three extra places up for grabs.

A different mood

Kris Ajer enjoying the session encapsulates the different vibe at training. Yes, it was an ultimately disappointing season but this is likely one of the final times this group of players are together with the curtain coming down on the campaign on Saturday. Odsonne Edouard will have many suitors but Ajer might be the most coveted player when teams come calling.

There's no doubt he could have stood taller when Alfredo Morelos cracked his shot towards at goal but a fair few scouts will be swooning about a central defender who specialises in taking the ball for a spin from box to box on multiple occasions every week. Ajer can still improve but overall he's enjoyed a decent individual season while others around of him have struggled mightily.
