Manchester City are reportedly in the running for Romelu Lukaku's signature this summer on the back of a season in which he played a starring role in Inter Milan's Serie A title win.

What is the latest Man City transfer news?

The looming departure of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus' struggle to hold down a regular berth in Pep Guardiola's starting XI have prompted plenty of speculation concerning the acquisition of a new centre-forward.

Though Riyad Mahrez and Kevin De Bruyne have performed exceptionally in a fluid false-nine role on a handful of occasions this season, it seems that City are not content with their options in attack.

According to Italian broadcaster Mediaset (via FCInter1908), problems with the ownership at Inter Milan could force the club to offload some of their players in the summer window.

They claim that City have already contacted Lukaku's entourage in order to ascertain whether the Belgium international would be willing to move to the Etihad Stadium in the summer window.

Lukaku is eager to remain at the San Siro but the precarious economic situation at the club could yet prove to be a determining factor over his future.

How well has Lukaku played in Serie A during the 2020/21 season?

Simply put, Lukaku - who is valued at £81m by Transfermarkt - has been in scintillating form during the 2020/21 season, offering a menacing presence at the spearhead of Inter's attack.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo (27) has found the net more than Lukaku (21), while his return of nine assists is just two shy of another former Man United star in Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who currently leads the charts with 11.

Those who doubted Lukaku's ability to lead the line of a potential title winning side have been forced to retreat into exile this season, with the striker enjoying arguably the best campaign of his career.

Since bursting onto the scene as a fledgling youngster on loan at West Bromwich Albion, the 27-year-old has threatened to rise into Europe's elite bracket of strikers and on this season's evidence he now merits a place at the top table.

What has Antonio Conte said about Lukaku?

Antonio Conte's man management has clearly had a palpable effect on the quality of Lukaku's performances.

The Italian has recognised that the 91-cap international is no ordinary player and suggested that his unique blend of physical qualities enable him to play like an NFL player.

"Romelu is an atypical footballer because despite being 1.90 metres in height, he is also fast. He acts as a focal point but also, from the middle of the pitch, attacks like an American football player.

"I insisted on having him here and he can still grow with his touch and attacking the goal with malice.

"He is only 27 years old and if he wants to continue growing, he has an important future."

Whether his future remains with the Nerazzurri or with City, though, remains to be seen.
