Mission: Impossible 7 star Tom Cruise has recalled the filming of one particularly dangerous stunt for the new blockbuster.

In the past, the Mission: Impossible franchise has seen Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt do everything from scaling the Burj Khalifa to clinging onto the side of an airborne plane, and Mission: Impossible 7 will be no different, with on-set pictures hinting at plenty more big stunts to come.

In the latest issue of Empire Magazine, the actor-cum-daredevil opened up about one of the upcoming film's new stunts, in which Tom Cruise (as Ethan) will be seen riding his motorcycle off the edge of a cliff - a dangerous stunt that left Cruise with plenty of technical considerations as he filmed it.

"If the wind was too strong, it would blow me off the ramp," he shared. "The helicopter [filming the stunt] was a problem, because I didn't want to be hammering down that ramp at top speed and get hit by a stone.

"Or if I departed in a weird way, we didn't know what was going to happen with the bike," Cruise continued.

"I had about six seconds once I departed the ramp to pull the chute and I don't want to get tangled in the bike. If I do, that's not going to end well."

Talk about suffering for your art.

Alongside filming the stunt, the 58-year-old admitted during the interview that he also felt a great sense of relief to be in production again, given that the coronavirus pandemic had a serious impact on the film industry in 2020, with M:I7's production one of the first to be postponed amid COVID-19 fears.

"All those emotions were going through my mind. I was thinking about the people I work with, and my industry," noted Cruise. "And for the whole crew to know that we'd started rolling on a movie was just a huge relief.

"It was very emotional, I gotta tell you."

Mission: Impossible 7 currently has a scheduled release date of May 27, 2022.
