A farmhouse perched high above a valley boasts some of the most breathtaking views in Australia.

Camelot Station in Alexandra, 145 kilometres north-east of Melbourne CBD in the heart of the Victorian High Country, captures a panorama that includes rolling hillsides, sparkling lakes and and lush green forest from almost every room.

Straddling the peak of the Great Dividing Range, the three-bedroom house is in auspicious company in a region filled with award-winning restaurants, world-renowned wineries, breweries, ski fields and spa retreats.

Three fenced off mine shafts dating back to the gold rush add historic character to the property, which was painstakingly restored in recent years.

Designed and built by architect Les Clarke in 1991, the house was bought in 2011 by the current owner who began extensive renovations two years later.

The estate is strategically divided into two neighbouring parcels of land, both serviced by a natural water supply for domestic and livestock use.

Listing agent Nick Myers, who is overseeing the sale of the property for Elders Real Estate Melbourne, told Daily Mail Australia it is 'something really special'.

Mr Myers said the house has been designed to capture views from every angle, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a black timber deck that capitalises on its position perched on the top of the hillside.

'You're getting panoramic views from everywhere in the house,' he said.

The house's north-easterly position floods it with natural light from dawn until dusk.

Also on the 396 hectares of land is a private guesthouse and a swimming pool sunk into the ground, as well as a private helicopter landing pad and airstrip.

The house is being sold via expressions of interest, with bids accepted until Thursday, May 27.
