Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini has responded to reports that Tottenham have enquired about his availability to become the club's new manager.
The Lowdown: Levy still searching
After sacking Jose Mourinho last month, Daniel Levy is still on the lookout for a new boss as Ryan Mason remains in interim charge.
Plenty of big names have been linked with the vacancy, including Julian Nagelsmann (Archie Rhind-Tutt), Maurizio Sarri (Rai Sports via sportsmole.co.uk) and Erik Ten Hag (The Guardian). Gasperini had also been mentioned (The Transfer Window Podcast), with Spurs said to have made an enquiry for the 63-year-old.
The Latest: Gasperini responds
Speaking to Sky Sports (via Gianluca Di Marzio), Gasperini responded when asked about the speculation. He said:
"Contacts? If someone wanted me I would tell him to contact me after 24, but I should first understand if the president is bored with me."
The Verdict: Inconclusive
These comments are inconclusive. While the jovial nature of the answer would indicate that he has no desperate desire to quit his current post, he didn't rule out the possibility of a switch, and even suggested when would be the best time to contact him - May 24th will mark the end of the Serie A season.
Unsurprisingly, Gasperini is much sought-after. He has transformed Atalanta into a true Serie A powerhouse - they have qualified for the Champions League for the last two years in a row and are on course to do so for a third. They are a joy to watch, as well, with only Bayern Munich scoring more than their 84 league goals in Europe's top five divisions this campaign (WhoScored).
If Levy could somehow pull off a deal for the 63-year-old, he could be a fantastic appointment for Tottenham, especially with the club seeking an attack-minded manager (The Guardian).
