Walt Disney World and Universal Studios will be ending temperature checks in May after Florida moved to lift the rest of its statewide mandatory coronavirus restrictions.

Universal said it would no longer require temperature checks to enter their parks in an announcement titled "Getting Closer to Normal."

The parks will still be requiring masks and routine sanitization, though social distancing measures were changed from six feet apart to three feet apart for Universal. Disney said it would keep six feet of social distancing in place.

Disney said cast members will no longer have to get their temperature checked starting May 8 while guests at the parks will no longer have to get their temperature checked starting May 16.

"We will continue to follow the guidance of health and safety leaders going forward and most importantly encourage people to get vaccinated," Disney said in the announcement.

Many places around the country are loosening their COVID-19 restrictions as cases go down and vaccinations go up.

Disneyland in California opened up at the end of April after being shut down for more than a year due to the pandemic. That park also has temperature checks, mask mandates and social distancing guidelines in place.
