Sheffield Wednesday journalist Dom Howson has been sharing his thoughts on all things related to the Owls ahead of their crunch game on Saturday.

Specifically, Howson discussed the current financial issues at the club, and their potential relegation to League One could mean for the Owls in terms of buying new players.

This comes after Howson co-hosted a recent episode of Wednesday-themed podcast Singing The Blues where he spoke about a range of topics concerning the Owls.

On the subject of the summer transfer window and the potential implications around it in regards to the current financial situation at the club and the possibility of them getting relegated this season, Howson had this to say on the matter.

He said: "I look at it as well in the wider picture of the summer recruitment. If Wednesday are still in the Championship or if they're a League One club, would you be right now rushing to sign for Sheffield Wednesday and queuing up to a club that has been struggling to pay their players in full or on time for the last year or so?

"I'm not so sure that you would.

"That's what concerns me with when you're thinking there's going to be a huge turnover of players in the summer. I worry that players are going to be put off again by what's going on off the field at Sheffield Wednesday."

So far this season, Wednesday have won just 12 out of their 45 played league games, drawing 10 and losing 23 in the process (per BBC Sport).

TIF Thoughts on Dom Howson's comments on the summer transfer window.

Taking into account how Wednesday have failed to pay some of their players in full and on time at points this season, as Howson mentioned in the podcast, and the fact that they have spent the majority of the current season in the relegation zone, it's easy to see why Howson thinks the club would have some issues in attracting new players this summer.

In our view, it seems that there is a lot of work that needs to be done over the summer behind the scenes and whether or not they will be in the Championship or League One will undoubtedly be a huge factor regarding what happens over the summer transfer window.
