Courier-Mail columnist Jake Thrupp says we should be clear China's "naked expansionism" is a threat to Australia, and the next big issue is where "sleepy Joe Biden" will stand regarding Taiwan.
He pointed to China's construction of a $40 billion "industrial city" in Papua New Guinea just "three hours north of Australia".
"This is in the Torres Strait. Australia, we import 80 per cent of our oil - refined in Singapore - it goes through the Torres Strait and, hello, China will be right there controlling all this stuff.

According to Mr Thrupp, the next big issue which will take place is Taiwan.
"Where will sleepy Joe Biden stand on Taiwan? And that's why it is good that Australia is actually - I think - leading the pushback on all of this stuff," he told Sky News host Gary Hardgrave.
"We have to start calling China out, and well done to Peter Dutton for doing so."
