Aston Villa are reportedly among the Premier League clubs eyeing a move for Norwich City playmaker Emiliano Buendia.

Villa were first linked with the Argentine last summer and reports in the national press in April claimed that Dean Smith's side have made the 25 year-old a top target once the 2020-21 season concludes.

Buendia has scored 14 times and registered 17 assists in 38 Championship appearances this season, helping Norwich back into the Premier League at the first time of asking following relegation last season.

Despite the Canaries finishing rock-bottom, Buendia's chance creation numbers stacked up against Villa captain Jack Grealish and Kevin De Bruyne.

The former Real Madrid youth had a hand in eight of Norwich's 26 goals in the Premier League last season and has reportedly attracted interest from Leeds United and Arsenal.

French outlet Foot Mercato claims that Villa and top flight rivals Crystal Palace and West Ham United are all keen while Spanish sides Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Villarreal are being linked too.

The website also quotes a price of £35 million to complete a deal for the player and it would be surprising if Villa were not interested in the player.

Smith 's side have dipped into the Championship to strengthen their ranks, bringing in Matty Cash and Ollie Watkins from Nottingham Forest and Brentford respectively last summer.

Buendia has already proven himself in the Premier League and a run of three wins in 11 games without captain Jack Grealish has underlined a need for Villa to sign someone who can step up in their talisman's absence.

Villa fans are certainly backing a move for Buendia.

"For this price, he would have to be our top target," one supporter said. "The one player I am absolutely convinced we should sign if it is possible."

"Give them £40m and get it done asap," another says while a third fan adds: "If we can get him for that much with them coming back up next season we should bite their hands off."

"Please, please, please," says another.

A fifth fan adds: "Pay. It. Now."

Buendia has scored 23 times in 123 career appearances for Norwich and has contributed 42 assists.
