Wolverhampton Wanderers skipper Conor Coady has revealed he was warned against diving at Anfield - by Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

Coady, a former Reds defender, was caught up in simulation controversy when he went to ground and Wolves were awarded a penalty on their Premier League visit to Liverpool in December.

The decision by referee Craig Pawson was overturned by VAR when it quickly became clear there was no contact from Sadio Mane, with the home side going on to win 4-0. And Coady admits he was left in no uncertain terms what the Liverpool players thought of his actions.

"I got some serious stick for that!" he said, speaking on the Greatest Game podcast.

"As the ball comes in, you know when you're thinking someone is going to touch you, as I'm thinking that he (Mane) is going to touch me, he never, he moved his foot (away) dead quick.

"So I go down and I was hoping that the referee wouldn't blow his whistle.

"The next minute, the whistle goes and I just put my head down into the turf and thought 'oh for f**** sake'.

"So I'm thinking they're obviously going to see it on VAR. I'm walking back and all the Liverpool players are giving me stick, I just put my head down and walked back.

"I remember as I'm walking back Salah, of all people, said to me 'you can't do that, my friend'. I didn't even appeal about it.

"My family gave me a bit of stick and said 'what are you doing?!?' I looked stupid."
