Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has recalled crying over his brain haemorrhage in an emotional documentary about his life.

The Scottish legend was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery in May 2018 - leaving football fans across the globe praying for a miracle.

Thankfully the procedure was a success and Fergie was back being nursed back to health by his loved ones less than a month later.

The 79-year-old has opened up in ' Sir Alex Ferguson : Never Give In', which is in the cinemas from May 27 and on Amazon Prime from May 29.

The documentary explores his life and a career in football that spanned more than half a century, from his early playing days at Queen's Park and later his boyhood heroes Rangers before a management career where success at Aberdeen earned him a move to Old Trafford where he created a dynasty.

While recovering from the brain haemorrhage, Ferguson talks through his most treasured memories - from his upbringing in Govan to meeting his wife Cathy and his trophy-laden career.

The film is directed by one of Ferguson's sons Jason and he recalls making a crucial emergency 999 call to save his father's life.

Speaking about that traumatic day, Sir Alex said: "I was crying because I don't remember a thing."

Jason recalls the shock of what happened adding: "He just put his head in his hands and said 'Oh, I hope there's nothing wrong with my memory, there better be nothing wrong with my memory'."

In the trailer, the likes of Eric Cantona and Gordon Strachan provide insight about the greatest manager of all time, who has won more trophies than any other gaffer in football history.

Meanwhile Fergie reveals he 'went off the rails' in his younger days and 'fell out' with his dad adding: "I've always regretted that. But the football was a saviour."

The documentary vows to show the football legend vividly recalling his career - recounting the stories behind his most influential defeats, trophies and players through interviews with Sir Alex himself, his wife Cathy, his three sons, as well as former colleagues.

It charts his move from his own successful playing career and prolific goal-scoring at Scottish clubs, including Rangers, to his move into management and leading Aberdeen to the European Cup Winners' Cup and then finally his move south to Old Trafford.

He turned Manchester United's fortunes around and led them to over two decades of consistent success, after a testing few years at the club.

The Red Devils won a glittering array of trophies under Ferguson's guidance, including 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two Champions League titles.

Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In releases in UK cinemas on May 27 and on Amazon Prime Video on May 29.
