Authorities are investigating after two gangsters threw 1,000 cockroaches into a restaurant in Taiwan

Police believe the attack on G House Taipei on Monday could have been carried out by a criminal organisation in revenge for unpaid debt.

CCTV footage released by the Taipei police department shows two men dressed in black entering the restaurant and throwing the insects before running back out.

Taipei Police Commissioner Chen Jia-chang said that the incident was likely targeting the restaurant owner, who allegedly owes money to a criminal gang.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Chen said that throwing bags of cockroaches is classed as a violent act and should be punished.

Chen added that the roaches were small and likely the kind used for feeding fish.

Following the attack, G House Taipei announced that the restaurant would be completely sterilized.

Four men and one woman who are suspected of involvement in the attack have been taken into custody, according to reports.

The individuals are believed to have been involved in a financial dispute with the restaurant owner.
