Former President Donald Trump defended his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, a day after federal investigators executed a search warrant on his home and office.

Trump called the move by law enforcement "so unfair," and he said a "double standard" is at play. Federal investigators executed search warrants on Giuliani's Manhattan apartment and Park Avenue office Wednesday regarding their investigation into his dealings overseas.

"You know, Rudy Giuliani is a great patriot. He does these things - he just loves this country, and they raid his apartment, it's like so unfair and such a double - like a double standard, like I don't think anybody's ever seen before," he said Thursday on Fox News. "It's very, very unfair. Rudy is a patriot who loves this country."

The inquiry involved "a possible violation of foreign lobbying rules," said Giuliani's lawyer, Robert Costello, according to the Wall Street Journal.

"It's an unfair situation," Trump added, acknowledging he's unaware of what investigators are looking for. "You have to understand Rudy, Rudy loves this country so much. It is so terrible when you see things that are going on in our country with the corruption and the problems, and then they go after Rudy Giuliani. It's very sad, actually."

The warrant is related to alleged suspicions that Giuliani might have violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act, according to Fox News.

Trump also seemingly rhetorically asked if President Joe Biden, his son, Hunter, former Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, and his brother, Tony, filed the necessary documents to be in compliance with the act.

FBI agents also executed a search warrant at the D.C.-area home of Victoria Toensing, a former federal prosecutor and wife to ex-U.S. Attorney Joe DiGenova, both of whom are close to Giuliani and have had dealings with Ukrainians who have sought damaging information about the Bidens.

Federal authorities have keyed in on Giuliani, focusing on whether he illegally lobbied the previous administration in 2019 on behalf of Ukrainian officials and oligarchs while searching for damaging information on Trump's political rivals, including Biden, who was by that point the leading candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination.

The former New York City mayor's son, Andrew Giuliani, who is considering a run for New York governor, described the execution of the warrant as the "continued politicization of the Justice Department."
