Fraternal Order of Police tells Joy Behar to 'have the decency to educate yourself' before weighing in on police-involved shootings

The National Fraternal Order of Police clarified why law enforcement officials do not use "warning shots" when confronting people who could potentially cause harm after The View's Joy Behar made the suggestion earlier this week.

"If you're going to comment on police matters, have the decency to educate yourself first. You owe it to your viewers," the FOP tweeted in response to Behar. "Warning shots are prohibited by every agency in this country. Also, you might want to take a physics lesson... what goes up, must come down."

The tweet comes a day after Behar and co-host Whoopi Goldberg criticized the actions of the police officer who fatally shot 16-year-old Ma'Khia Bryant.

Behar said CNN host Don Lemon told her that the officer may not have had a choice in the situation, something Behar said she was unsure of.

"Well, he texted me because I mentioned this case yesterday vis-a-vis the George Floyd case. He said, you know, that he - the cop had no choice, or something to that effect. My feeling is I don't know if that's true or not. I really can't figure it out anymore," she said.

"I mean, it seems to me in a situation - this is what it looked like to me. And I looked at the tape, and I still can't figure it out," Behar continued.

Behar suggested that officers exercise a "warning" shot or attempt to wound the assailant rather than kill them.

"Shoot the gun in the air as a warning. Tase a person. Shoot them in the leg. Shoot them in the behind. Stop them somehow, but if the only solution is to kill a teenager, there's something wrong with this," she said. "There's something very, very wrong with the way these things are being conducted. Even if the cop had to do it, there's something wrong with it."

"I can't explain it any better than that, but he and I were going back and forth last night because he has a completely different view of this. But all I can say is we keep talking about this over and over again, and kids still keep getting shot. It's like the gun issue in this country. People keep getting shot, and nothing ever gets done about it. It's a very frustrating conversation to have, but I can't add much to it," she concluded.
