The 5 Celtic players new boss will build his team around as key core set base for Parkhead rebuild

The fact that it's set to be a summer of change for Celtic is so well-established by now it's practically a mantra.

The Parkhead club already have a new CEO in the shape of Dominic McKay, and will go into the 2021-22 campaign with a new manager and sporting director too.

On the pitch there's set to be upheaval too. Captain Scott Brown is joining Aberdeen and star man Odsonne Edouard seems certain to leave.

Defensive rock Kris Ajer is also set to go, and it's been reported Ryan Christie will be free to talk to suitors over the summer thanks to a deal expiring in January.

Add to that the end of loan spells for Shane Duffy, Diego Laxalt, Jonjoe Kenny and Moi Elyounoussi and the new manager will have pretty much a clean slate to work with.

Whoever comes in will still want a core to rely on though, and here are the five men he'll be leaning on.

Christopher Jullien

The Frenchman won't be seen again this season after suffering a knee injury but Jullien will be a key man going forward.

Shane Duffy's loan ends in the summer and there's little incentive to buy him from Brighton, while Stephen Welsh is still learning the ropes.

Given interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Milan it seems certain Kris Ajer will be off at the end of the season, leaving Jullien as the only senior centre-back.

At 28 the defender should be coming into his prime and his place in the spine of the team is assured.

Callum McGregor

McGregor looks set to inherit Scott Brown's captain's armband and is a player who could have the team built around him.

Having spent 20 years at the club the midfielder lives and breathes Celtic and, despite interest from Brendan Rodgers at Leicester, he's the ideal figure to lead the club into a new era.

McGregor is under contract until 2024 and will be a key lieutenant for whoever the new manager is.

Ismaila Soro

After a slow start to his Celtic career the Ivorian has shown enough this season to suggest he could become a midfield mainstay.

While there may be doubts about his ability on the ball, Soro provides real thrust and energy in the centre of the park to complement the more metronomic McGregor.

Still just 22, he will look to really establish himself under the new man.

David Turnbull

It's been a season of precious few positives for Celtic but Turnbull is certainly one of them.

After sealing his move from Motherwell 12 months late, the 21-year-old has been hugely effective with eight goals and six assists so far.

The injury that initially delayed his move to Parkhead doesn't seem to have affected him and with Turnbull will only improve with more experience.

He's a certainty for whoever the new man is.

James Forrest

If there were any doubts about Forrest's importance they've been dispelled this season.

The winger has missed most of the botched 10 In A Row campaign with an ankle problem and Celtic have felt his absence keenly.

Forrest turns 30 in July and with over 400 appearances is now one of the old heads in the squad.

Along with McGregor he'll be the continuity from the Nine In A Row team.
