Mark Wahlberg was spotted working on his upcoming movie Stu in Los Angeles this Wednesday.

The former rapper was seen in costume, including a striped T-shirt over a plain white sweatshirt as he emerged from an old car on the set.

This is the first time the 48-year-old movie star has been photographed since he announced the death of his mother Alma Wahlberg on Saturday.

Mark was not only seen getting out of a car, he was also photographed walking out of a building that had rod iron gates.

At one point Mark could also be spotted hopping aboard a motorcycle while making sure to take the precaution of wearing a mask.

He and his brother Donnie Wahlberg announced on their Instagram pages this Saturday that their mother had died at the age of 78.

No cause of death has been made public for Alma, who brought nine children into the world with her husband Donald Wahlberg.

After her demise Mark posted a picture of her to Instagram and wrote simply in the caption: 'My angel. Rest in peace.'

Shortly thereafter he posted a picture of her with him, his wife Rhea Durham, 42, and their children Ella, 17, Michael, 15, Brendan, 12, and Grace, 11.

Alma, who featured on the family's reality show Wahlburgers, was reportedly suffering from dementia near the end of her life.

In his memorial post to his mother Donnie wrote: 'I've often said, if you like anything about me, I got it from Alma. I say that, because it's true.'

Alma, who suffered the loss of her daughter Debbie in 2003, has spoken about what it was like bringing up nine children.

She once told the Today show that 'I invented the craziest meals' as a mother of nine, with 'English muffin pizzas' as 'the big treat.'

During the same interview she said that parents who discern talent in their children ought to 'encourage them immediately.'

Stu is a biopic of the late Father Stuart Long who started off his career as a boxer and eventually became a priest.

The clergyman's father will be played by Mel Gibson whose girlfriend Rosalind Ross is both writing the movie and directing it, The Hollywood Reporter revealed.

Mark, who himself has been a devout Catholic for years, previously played a boxer a decade ago in the acclaimed film The Fighter.

Stuart Long was riding a motorcycle when he suffered a disastrous accident, prompting him to find religion after an out-of-body experience in the hospital.

During the process of entering the priesthood he discovered he had the rare autoimmune illness inclusion body myositis.

He was ultimately left wheelchair-bound but continued his work as a man of the cloth until his death in 2014 at the age of 50.
