Liam Kennedy has been speaking on the latest edition of NUFC Matters about all things relating to Newcastle United.
One of the topics that he spent some time on was Jonjo Shelvey after the Toon midfielder was asked in a recent interview why he is so lazy.
The former Liverpool man claimed that he does put the work in, but his style makes him look lazy, but Kennedy isn't having any of that and slammed Shelvey.
He said: "He can't hide away. He is lazy. There's no doubt about it. He doesn't track; he doesn't run; he doesn't show for the ball as much as he should. He doesn't take control of games as much as he should.
"Just because he's got the armband on his shoulder doesn't make [him] a captain, and that's what he thinks he is at the minute.
"We don't need a Jonjo Shelvey.
"If you have a Jonjo Shelvey as your captain and your talisman in midfield, you'll fight relegation every single season from now until he retires, and that's the problem Newcastle have got; they've just tied him down to a big deal. It's mental."
TIF Thoughts on Shelvey.
Last season the 29-year-old was the Toon's top league goalscorer and ranked in second place in their squad for his performances.
However, this season he has turned in some poor displays but has played the last 15 Premier League games, even though Newcastle have other options in the centre of midfield.
Therefore, we can see why Kennedy has slated Shelvey here as this season he just hasn't done enough for his side, but no matter how he plays, Steve Bruce has him in from the start the following week.
However, given that the Toon handed Shelvey a new deal in March 2020, we can't see him leaving Tyneside any time soon.
