Costco has been busy this Spring releasing (and bringing back) several new products to its warehouses. But there's another one to add to the list, and, of course, Costco has the exclusive huge bag. (Related: 100 Unhealthiest Foods on the Planet.)

The Crispy Chik'n Patties from Alpha Foods are available at other grocery stores in packs of three, but the warehouse chain's version has 10 and it is now available nationwide for $9.99. The plant-based patties are made from soy and wheat, and are packed with protein.

Harvard Health recommends that at least 10% of your daily calories come from protein, or that you should eat about 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. For a 50-year-old woman who weighs about 140 pounds and who doesn't exercise, that's about 53 grams.

One Chik'n Patty contains 170 calories, 6 grams of fat, 0 grams of saturated fat, 200 milligrams of sodium, 20 grams of carbs, 2 grams of fiber, 1 gram of sugar, and 13 grams of protein. Pair it with a bun (like this one from Costco with 8 grams of protein), and your Chik'n Patty just transformed into a plant-based, high-protein meal that, if you're the woman mentioned above, gives you almost 40% of your daily recommended amount of protein.

Should you eat more plant-based foods?

Options for meatless, plant-based proteins like these Costco Chik'n Patties have gone up exponentially recently. Research consistently shows that eating less meat leads to a smaller risk of developing things like high cholesterol, heart disease, cancer, and more health issues. Eating less meat can sound daunting, but experts say a little goes a long way.

"You don't have to go cold turkey. Instead, try easing into meatless meals. Consider going meatless one day a week," The Mayo Clinic experts say. "If you don't like the idea of a whole day without meat, start with a couple of meatless dinners each week."
