Rangers will welcome Arsenal to Ibrox this summer as the club ramp up plans to celebrate their 150th anniversary.

The Gunners will arrive in Glasgow on July 17 for a "commemorative friendly" against Steven Gerrard 's side.

The two clubs have historical ties, including a close friendship between legendary managers Bill Struth and Herbert Chapman.

It was the Gunners who provided Rangers' opposition in the club's centenary year and will do so again when they rack up another milestone.

A Rangers statement said: "Rangers are delighted to announce Arsenal FC will visit Ibrox Stadium on Saturday July 17 2021 to participate in a commemorative friendly for Rangers' prestigious 150th anniversary with the match being presented by Utilita.

"Rangers and Arsenal enjoy a long, rich history and first played each other in 1933 in what was known as the "Game of Champions". This fixture became an annual event for many years and was testimony to the deep friendship held by Rangers manager, Bill Struth and Arsenal's Herbert Chapman.

"Arsenal were also notably Rangers' opposition when we celebrated our centenary, therefore it is with great pride that we will host Arsenal again as part of the celebrations of our historic 150th anniversary season.

"We look forward to welcoming former Rangers player Mikel Arteta and his team to Ibrox in July and more detailed match information, including ticketing for home supporters and broadcast information, will be released in due course.

"Due to current restrictions relating to the coronavirus pandemic, away fans will not be able to attend the match."
