Emergency services were called to the Western Highway near Gerang Gerung, between Nhill and Dimboola in the Wimmera, shortly after 1am.

Police say the trucks collided, with one rolling off the road and coming to rest in a nearby paddock.

One driver, a 20-year-old man from Dandening North, was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with life-threatening injuries where he remains in a stable condition.

A hospital spokesperson said the man suffered upper and lower body injuries.

The two other men, aged 64 and 61, were taken by ambulance to the Wimmera Hospital in a stable condition with no obvious injuries.

Road expected to remain closed

The clean-up is underway on the highway, which is expected to remain closed for some time.

A CFA spokesperson said the crash left diesel fuel and pig carcasses strewn across the road.

The Western Highway is expected to remain closed while investigators examine the scene.

The transport department is advising Adelaide-bound motorists to detour from Dimboola to Jeparit, and then to Nhill.
