Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves disagree on Jadon Sancho amid Manchester United interest

Paul Scholes believes that if Manchester United sign Jadon Sancho it could impact Mason Greenwood's development.

MEN Sport understands that United are refusing to rule out a move for the Borussia Dortmund winger, though Erling Haaland is the club's primary summer focus.

The Bundesliga club have shown a willingness to part with Sancho, with Dortmund looking likely to miss out on Champions League football next season.

United were keen to sign Sancho last summer but refused to meet Dortmund's £110million asking price and the MEN understands the club stopped talks over a possible transfer with Sancho's agent, Emeka Obasi, three weeks before the summer transfer window closed.

Two former United midfielders Scholes and Owen Hargreaves are in disagreement about the 21-year-old and whether or not their old club should sign him.

Hargreaves said on BT Sport: "I don't think it's realistic for United to win the Premier League next season.

"They have to find a way to bridge that gap, they bridge that gap by getting another centre-back, getting another midfielder and a right winger.

"A lot of people have played on that right-hand side, but they haven't really found it.

"Jadon Sancho would be amazing, you think about Raphinha at Leeds, what he could do in this United team, there's obviously levels.

"You can't spend £100million on every player, do you know what I mean?"

Scholes then replied: "I think that could stop the likes of Greenwood by signing Sancho.

"I know what you're saying with Sancho, but Mason Greenwood has been the best player on the right-hand side.

"Marcus doesn't like playing there, Martial doesn't like playing there, they both like coming from the other side and Mason's been the best player out there.

"I get what you're saying about Sancho, but what I see in Sancho is that he'd be more creative, he'd have a better link with a centre-forward, they'd like to play with him a bit more than Mason Greenwood or Marcus Rashford because they're more head down dribblers, want to score goals, whereas this lad can do both.

"He's a sensational player, I just wonder if he's a bit similar to what United already have in those areas."

Before Hargreaves concluded: "I know what you mean, I think a lot of people think they're really similar, but Jadon gets you 20 plus assists, whereas Mason has five this year, Marcus has a lot more, Martial has a few. Jadon will get you 20 and then the other boys are going to get you five or eight more goals a season.

"I think there are a lot of areas United need to address, you can't address all of them.

"Cavani stays, then you can go and invest the money in positions that do need addressing."
