Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore has revealed he has developed pneumonia with blood clots on his lungs after battling Covid-19.

Moore had completed a period of self-isolation after contracting coronavirus and returned to the Owls' Middlewood Road training base on Monday.

He was back in the Hillsborough dugout for Tuesday's defeat by Swansea City, after which he begun to experience "extreme discomfort".

Moore will now have another spell away from his duties with his side staring down the barrel of relegation to League One.

The former West Brom and Doncaster boss said: "I have developed pneumonia as a result of COVID-19, with blood clots on the lungs and extreme discomfort.

"I am gutted to be away but I understand the situation and the course of action I must take."

Moore left Doncaster to take over at Wednesday in March, becoming the Owls' fourth boss of a tumultuous season after Garry Monk, Tony Pulis and caretaker manager Neil Thompson.

He cut his managerial teeth in the Premier League with West Brom following the sacking of Alan Pardew in April 2018.

Despite failing to keep the Baggies up, he won manager of the month and stayed in charge until March the following year. He then joined Doncaster that summer.

As a player, Moore made over 650 career appearances for Torquay, Doncaster, Bradford, Portsmouth, West Bro, Derby, Barnsley and Burton.

The centre-half was also capped three times by Jamaica.
