A boat carrying five migrants arrived on UK shores today after 44 people made the dangerous journey across the Channel yesterday.

Immigration Enforcement officials were seen bringing the men to shore at Dover, Kent, on Saturday.

Stormy conditions at sea have caused a lull in arrivals as several boats attempting to make the crossing from France turned back.

On Friday, authorities dealt with two events involving 44 people who made the crossing to the UK.

The Home Office said French authorities also intercepted at least 49 migrants who attempted to cross earlier yesterday.

About the crossing on Saturday, Border Force have said they are currently dealing with the ongoing small boat incident off the Kent coast.

On April 3, the Home Office confirmed 30 migrants were detained after making the dangerous Channel crossing through 30mph winds on a single boat.

The group, which arrived at Dover Marina, Kent, included young children as well as a disabled man who required a wheelchair.

It takes the total number of arrivals in the UK for the year so far to 1,392.

French authorities also prevented 148 people from attempting the treacherous 21-mile journey in seven boats on April 1, according to the Home Office.

Minister for Immigration Compliance and Justice Chris Philp said: 'People should claim asylum in the first safe country they reach and not make these dangerous journeys.

'Close work with law enforcement colleagues in France is stopping migrants from leaving French beaches, but there is more work to be done.

'Our New Plan for Immigration will break the business model of people smugglers, and overhaul our broken asylum system.'
