Preston North End are considering former Bristol City boss, Dean Holden, for the managerial vacancy at Deepdale, a source has revealed to Football League World.

Alex Neil ended his tenure at Deepdale last month on the back of a sea of disappointing results in the Sky Bet Championship, with North End now on the lookout for his successor to lead them into 2021/22.

A source has revealed to Football League World that Preston admire the work of Holden with regard to bringing through young talent, with the 41-year-old a contender for the vacant job that's at North End.

Holden was the man to take over at Bristol City during the 2019/20 run-in following Lee Johnson's departure, with the in-house appointment a success as the Robins finished the campaign strongly.

That would lead to Holden's permanent appointment at Ashton Gate ahead of 2020/21, with the Robins carrying momentum into the current campaign and threatening a play-off push.

However, results became hard to come by in 2021 and Holden lost his job in mid-February on the back of six straight defeats, which included crashing out of the FA Cup at the hands of Sheffield United and coincided with their push for the play-offs failing.

Around a month later, Preston followed Bristol City's lead, ending Neil's spell in-charge of the Lilywhites following just one win in nine.

Preston sit 16th in the table as things stand under the stewardship of Frankie McAvoy, a point and two places behind Bristol City.
