Picking a weapon to use in Apex Legends requires a lot of thought. Using a long-range weapon in a close-up battle? Eh wrong, now you are dead. However picking a weapon can be ridiculously tricky - especially when stats keep changing.
For example? Well, in the submachine gun category, the R-99 is generally considered the best. Or was, until the stats changed once again. Yes, you read that right. Respawn Entertainment has changed the stats for the submachine category.
Daniel Klein - a developer for Apex Legends - revealed over Twitter that the Alternator actually has a higher win rate than the community's favorite R-99. The Alternator is generally considered an early-game weapon: you pick it up at the beginning of a game then drop it when you find a better one.
Which, Klein goes on to explain in this Twitter thread, is a good reason why the Alternator has such a high win rate. Everybody is using lesser weapons at the beginning so it's easier to get those wins in. So while the Alternator might have a higher win rate, the R-99 still has an edge in other areas. Whether or not that will change now with the new stats for the submachine gun category is yet to be seen. We'll all be waiting on tenterhooks.
