Jurgen Klopp believes Diogo Jota is in a "really good moment" as he pointed to the increased strength in depth that is now benefiting Liverpool.

Jota came off the bench in the second half to score twice as the Reds moved to within two points of the Champions League qualification places with a hugely impressive 3-0 win at Arsenal on Saturday evening.

The Portuguese, who now has 12 goals in 22 Liverpool appearances, had been named among the substitutes with Klopp having been concerned at his workload during the international break.

And the Reds said: "In terms of finishing you could say he made the difference, although in that moment there could have been another player in that position as well.

"But I don't want to take anything away from Diogo! He is in a really good moment."

Jota, who was joined among the substitutes by Gini Wijnaldum, replaced Andy Robertson shortly after the hour.

"We had to make decisions," explained Klopp. "Diogo played a little bit too much for Portugal for my taste.

"He was injured for a long time, and then he had to play immediately because Bobby was injured, and played too much for us already.

"Then he went to Portugal, and the last two games were really tense, and he felt it a little bit.

"The same with Gini, played all three games for Holland. Robbo looks like he plays all the time for Scotland, every second, so we had to make these kind of decisions.

"Some didn't start, some didn't finish the game. But in general tonight we had the choice, and that's very important."

Liverpool's increased options were underlined by Ben Davies, Divock Origi and Neco Williams not even making the 20-man matchday squad, while Curtis Jones, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were among the unused substitutes.

And with the Champions League quarter-final trip to Real Madrid on Tuesday the second of six games in 22 days, Klopp believes squad strength can now play a factor.

"All the boys at the moment, hopefully it stays like this, are in a good moment and in a good shape," said the Reds boss.

"We have options - we could have lined up with five or six other players tonight who are all in a good shape.

"Curtis Jones played outstanding for England U21s, Shaq played super, Naby trained outstanding for us, Ox is in a really good moment.

"That's the situation we have now and we have to use that for the tough period coming up."
