Shields was the man of the match, grabbing two goals and providing the cross for the winning goal.
Attention for Queen of the South now turns to Monday night when they face Hibs in the Scottish Cup, live on BBC Scotland, at Palmerston Park.
Shields sees no reason why they can't cause a Scottish Cup shock.
"If we take what we did today into the Hibs match then there's no reason we can't do the same again," he said.
"It's a tough game but if we have the same attitude, who's to say we can't get the same result."
'Totally deserved win'
The 23-year-old moved on to eight goals for the season with his double salvo. The second was the most memorable, lobbing Ross Stewart from more than 25 yards out.
It helped Queen of the South earn their first win over Hearts in a competitive fixture since 1963 and kept Allan Johnston's men firmly in play-off contention.
"We were massive underdogs but I thought, right from the start, we were at it," he said. "After the early goal, it would be easy to sit back but I thought the boys were brilliant.
"When it comes back to 2-2, you start to fear the worst but I'm delighted to get the three points to push us back up the table.
"I had a look up and just saw the keeper off his line. Some days those go miles over the bar - other days, that happens. I'm just delighted it went in.
"I didn't know it had been that long since the last win here, but I thought it was totally deserved. It's a tough task to come to Tynecastle but we dug in and the boys were great.
"After the last few weeks, a couple of losses, we had to come out with purpose. There was no point sitting back. We may as well go for it, and I thought we were brilliant from the start. We pressed them and got our rewards."
Pressure
Ex-Hearts winger Johnston knew there was a possibility to make life difficult for his former side and admitted the early goal was key.
"We knew they were going to be under a wee bit of pressure," he said. "I've played football myself for long enough and I know what it's like off the back of a bad defeat.
"You expect them to come out on the front foot but we got the first goal that sets them back a wee bit. I thought we were different class, especially the first half. We played really well and created chances.
"It was frustrating to lose that goal from a set piece that let them back in the game, but credit to the boys for coming back. We looked a threat up front with the pace and the quality we've got."
