Norwich City's potential permanent move for Ben Gibson from Burnley will not be scuppered, with the Athletic reporting that a deal will still happen if the Canaries clinch promotion.
The former Middlesbrough centre back had to be stretchered from the field at the weekend in the home draw against Blackburn Rovers after suffering what appears to be a season ending injury for a player who has seen his career affected by similar setbacks over the past few campaigns.
A Burnley loanee, Gibson had been ever present for Daniel Farke's men up to now and had played a part in 29 games across all competitions for the Championship table toppers.
However it is said that this latest injury setback for the 28-year-old will not put an end to his current side's interest in signing him permanently, with the report going on to state that a clause in the deal will allow the Canaries to sign the player if they go up as expected.
Gibson currently has just one year remaining on his current contract at Turf Moor and is unlikely to command a large fee.
The Verdict
I think Norwich would be super keen to make this deal happen as Gibson has been solid for much of the campaign under Farke and has proved to be a shrewd addition.
He has the ability to play out from the back well and that really fits into the philosophy and overall style of play that has been implemented at Carrow Road in recent years.
As mentioned before he is unlikely to cost a lot in comparison to other targets of a similar age and as a result could be signed for a cut price fee in the current market.
It should be a foregone conclusion if Norwich do seal promotion and as a result I feel this will be a smart move for the Canaries.
