Royal servant Charles Oliver shared Her Majesty's preference for fish in his book 'Dinner at Buckingham Palace', based on his diaries and personal recollections. The monarch is renown for having a broad taste in food, with royal chefs detailing the Royal Family's particular palette over the years.

Mr Oliver wrote the Queen has been found of kippers "since the war years" when she and her sister Princess Margaret were at Windsor Castle.

He said: "Kippers, in a number of uncomplicated variations, have remained a favourite with the Queen ever since - for breakfast, as a savoury or a late-night supper.

"The Queen is also fond of smoked haddock as a breakfast dish."

House and Garden also shared Her Majesty starts her day with Earl Grey tea without milk and sugar and a side of biscuits before tucking into her main breakfast in Buckingham Palace's dining room.

The Queen once left a scathing note to royal chef's after she found a slug in her salad.

Mr Oliver shared the Queen and Prince Philip are given a handbook to share feedback on meals.

When Her Majesty found the slug, she tore a piece of paper from the notebook and laid the slug on top.

The former servant claimed the note from the Queen said: "I found this in the salad - could you eat it?"

Darren McGrady, former chef to Her Majesty and Princess Diana, once claimed the Queen is "not really bothered about food".

He said she usually prefers traditional "British and French" dishes, but if they wanted to try something new the Queen would demand to look over the entire recipe before signing it off.

However, royal chef Mark Flanagan claimed one of the Queen's favourite meals is callaloo, a Caribbean vegetable soup.

He said in the ITV documentary 'Queen of the World': "The callaloo soup was an absolute sensation.

"I had email after email telling me that it must now feature more regularly."
