Plant owners are obsessing over a unique self-watering product that's the perfect solution for keeping houseplants alive.

The $19.44 (NZ$21) miniature IV drip featuring a refillable bag and stand slowly drip-feeds plants with just the right amount of water when it needs it.

The product - dubbed 'plant life support' - is very easy to use. Simply fill the bag with water, hang it on the hook provided, and then push the dripper into the soil.

Ideal for neglectful plant parents or those who are going away, the IV drip system can water indoor greenery for up to seven days.

'Tired of killing your houseplants? Hook your plants up to a miniature IV drip. Just fill it with water and it'll take care of the rest,' the description read.

'We've lost count of the number of plants we've accidentally sacrificed over the years. Not enough water, too much water - we'd like to claim it's the plants being picky but we know we're wholly responsible for their pathetic demise.'

The 350ml IV bag works well for plants in small pots, hanging pots or standing pots.

New Zealand homeware store Mighty Ape said it has since sold out of the plant-watering IV drip but confirmed it's expected to restock the item from May 1.

The product has been doing the rounds on Facebook, with thousands saying it's the perfect solution for keeping their plants alive all year round.

Dozens of plant owners said the IV drip would be a 'worthy investment' because they always end up killing their plants after forgetting to water them.

Many described the item as a 'game changer', 'brilliant idea' and 'perfect solution'.

'All jokes aside. I need this in my life,' one wrote.

Another suggested: 'This is what I need so I don't over water my plants and kill them,' while one added: 'This may be the only way for me to keep plants alive.'
