Meghan Markle complained to Ofcom about Piers Morgan, it has been revealed.

Earlier in the week, the regulator announced an investigation has been launched into Good Morning Britain after 41,000 viewers contacted them over the outspoken host's comments about the Duchess of Sussex's mental health.

Morgan found himself in hot water when he said he didn't believe Meghan's account of her mental health issues that she spoke of during her candid interview with Oprah Winfrey.

After the explosive outburst, Meghan's representatives filed a complaint to ITV - with Morgan choosing to leave the ITV daytime show hours later.

It has now been revealed that Meghan also made a second complaint to Ofcom.

A spokesperson for the watchdog said in a statement: "We can confirm receipt of a standards complaint made on behalf of the Duchess of Sussex."

The moment has now become the most complained about TV moment of the decade - beaten only the Celebrity Big Brother race row of 2007 which received 44,500 complaints.

It comes after Morgan shared an open letter this afternoon explaining the real reason for his swift exit from the ITV daytime show.

The host said he made the decision to quit after six years 'because I chose not to apologise for disbelieving Meghan Markle's claims.'

In the post shared to Instagram, Morgan warned free speech as the most important issue in modern Britain.

He also thanked his followers and vowed to continue to 'stand his ground.'

The controversial reported typed: "A little note to all my followers...

"Hi everyone. To all my supporters, I just wanted to drop you a note of thanks. (To all my haters, whatever.) It has been an extraordinary week for me, for Britain, for our monarchy and for our future.

"Those of you that know me well enough know that, despite my many faults, I'm always willing to stand my ground for the things that I think matter most."

He went on to list some of the reasons that he believes led to him being let go from various media roles, before addressing his most recent departure from GMB.

Piers continued: "And now I've lost my job at Good Morning Britain because I chose not to apologise for disbelieving Meghan Markle's claims in her interview with Oprah Winfrey.

"I thus became the latest 'victim' of the cancel culture that is permeating our country, every minute, of every hour, of everyday. Though of course, I consider myself to be neither a victim, nor actually cancelled.

"However, I do believe the defence of free speech and the right to express honestly held opinions, is the most important issue of my career, and the most important issue in British society."

Piers then went on to advertise his latest book as he typed: "If you'd like to show your support for me, please order a copy of my book Wake Up on Amazon (link in bio)."

Defending that he did not write the book to boost his bank balance, he added: "It's less than a tenner, and I didn't write it to make more money but because the very foundations of democracy, built upon freedom of expression, freedom of thought and freedom of speech, are under attack like never before and must be defended. It is a privilege to live in a democracy, and it is a privilege to be British."

Morgan also told his followers that he would not be returning to GMB despite more than 100,000 signing a petition for ITV to take him back.

Thanking his supporters, Morgan joked: "Normally people start petitions to have me fired or deported so this is a pleasant suprise."
