The sales of certain categories of beauty products always go up and down, but no more so than in the past year, which has seen falling sales of make-up products versus a rise in skincare. New statistics from Boots own brand No7 has revealed its Line Correcting Booster Serum, which is now priced at £19, was one of the company's best-selling products of 2020.

In a survey of 2000 women, Boots found that almost 60 percent of women are now more aware of lines since the start of the pandemic. Zoom calls certainly don't help - there's nothing like constantly staring at your face through the computer screen to highlight areas you previously wouldn't have been concerned about.

So called 'lockdown lines' have been most commonly noticed around the eye area with 33 percent of those questioned more aware of lines under the eye, 31 percent more aware of crows-feet and 30 percent noticing more forehead lines during the pandemic.

Used as a targeted treatment on specific areas of concern as the first step in your skincare after cleansing, it is seven times more powerful than any other line-reducing serum in their range (yes, even more so than Protect and Perfect) so it's clear to see what all the fuss is about. According to clinical trials, the product is proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkles by up to five years.

So why is the Line Correcting Booster Serum so good? 'It's two-fold,' says Dija Ayodele, a London-based aesthetician. 'Obviously the peptide technology will work over time on lines and wrinkles, which will take around 12 weeks to see a result, but on application the product has a mattifying effect, too. This means it sits well as a primer under make-up, and doesn't emphasise lines around the eyes.

'It's about improving that appearance of your skin,' adds Ayodele. 'None of my clients I speak to want to look dramatically younger, they just want to look more refreshed and refined which is what this helps with.' The Line Correcting Booster Serum contains the No7 Matrixyl 3000+ technology, which is clinically proven to improve the appearance of the skin.

Ayodele suggests using the targeting product as part of an overall good skincare routine, to see maximum results. Her tried-and-tested routine includes a cleanser in the morning, then applying the Line Correcting Booster Serum where you feel you need it, and then an antioxidant serum, face cream and finally a sun protection product. For the evenings, Ayodele suggests a good cleanser plus an effective skin regenerating vitamin A product (such as a retinol).
