Football Index, a website where customers can buy stock in footballers, is in turmoil after announcing dividends would be reduced by 80 per cent, causing player prices to plummet.
Users reacted with outrage, with some losing thousands of pounds on the website.
The company is the shirt sponsor for Championship clubs Forest and Queens Park Rangers. QPR have not yet commented but Forest said they are aware of the situation.
"We are aware and monitoring recent media coverage concerning Football Index and are in dialogue with them over the matter," a club spokesperson said.
Football Index has defended its decision to cut payouts, saying the decision was legally sound and would "protect the long-term sustainability of the platform".
