Former Celtic man Simon Donnelly has talked about the possibility of the Hoops hiring a new manager anytime soon.
Donnelly was a guest on the latest episode of the Celtic Huddle podcast and the panel talked about multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One topic of discussion was the club's next manager. The ex-Hoops star believes that if the club's board has any new manager in mind, work is already being done in this direction.
Celtic have already missed out on the chance to win their tenth Premiership title in a row, as their Old Firm rivals were crowned champions at the weekend. John Kennedy, the club's interim boss, has been in charge for a couple of games and oversaw their goalless draw against Dundee United.
Donnelly talked about when Celtic should appoint a new manager and he believes that the Bhoys need a new permanent boss as soon as possible.
The former Hoops man said: "In terms of getting a manager in just now, of course we want somebody as quick as possible, but I think even if they're working behind the scenes, if they have somebody in mind, [the squad will] already be getting assessed. If I was the guy identified to come in, whether it was in June or whatever, I'd already be assessing that squad just now."
TIF Thoughts on the next Celtic manager.
Celtic have lost out on the Premiership title and also surrendered their hold on the League Cup. They were also knocked out of European competition early this season, as they were eliminated in the group stages of the Europa League (as per Transfermarkt).
Having said that, they still have the Scottish Cup to play for and it has been announced that the competition will resume in March. Celtic fans may not like to see their club go trophyless in the season, so they'd have to take the Scottish Cup seriously.
And to do that, they may need to hire a new manager who gives themselves a good chance of doing that.
