Bungling builders were mocked after benches that should have enjoyed a river view were installed facing a brick wall.

The benches, set in concrete at a new development in Andover, Hampshire, face a 1960s wall belonging to a Wilko store.

Local council leader Phil North said: 'I couldn't quite believe it when I visited the site. They were, of course, always designed to face the river. Maybe the contractors are just fans of 1960s architecture.'
Mr North said residents had been in touch in recent days, with one joking: 'Perhaps they were going to get someone to paint a riverside scene on Wilko's wall.'
Another added: 'Should've gone to Specsavers.'
