There are several weapon types you can use in Valheim. A majority of them are melee weapons, so you always want the best armor equipped on your character to endure the occasional stray hit that an enemy might land against you. It happens more often than any Valheim warrior wants to admit. To avoid these encounters and sometimes take down a fearsome enemy, you can use the one ranged weapon available in the game: a bow. As you advance through the technology tree and acquire more resources, you'll discover plenty of bows that you can make. All of them are useful for you, and sometimes, it comes down to the arrow you're using. But not every bow does the same amount of damage. There is a best bow all players should be using in Valheim

These are all of the bows available in the game.

    • Pierce Damage: 22/25/28/31
    • Block Power: 5
    • Parry Force: 0
    • Parry Bonus: x1.5
  • Finewood Bow
    • Pierce Damage: 32/35/38/41
    • Block Power: 5
    • Parry Force: 0
    • Parry Bonus: x1.5
  • Huntsman Bow
    • Pierce Damage: 42/45/48/51
    • Block Power: 5
    • Parry Force: 0
    • Parry Bonus: x1.5
  • Draugr Fang
    • Pierce Damage: 47/50/53/56
    • Poison Damage: 5/10/15/20
    • Block Power: 5
    • Parry Force: 0
    • Parry Bonus: x1.5

The first bow you can make, the crude bow, is a decent weapon. It's not going to one-shot any of the bosses, no matter what arrow you use with it, but it's a good starting weapon. It gives you the chance to learn how to take your initial steps into the Black Forest and deal with the massive trolls wandering around this region. Even with this weapon, you'll probably end up entering melee combat against a troll because you wouldn't be able to take it out. Eventually, you want to use the finewood bow, even before you leave the Black Forest biome.

The finewood bow is a massive step up from the crude version. However, it's a natural progression in damage as it requires several more resources. You can find a lot of what you need to make it in the Black Forest and Meadows, so you won't have to adventure into the swamp to construct one of these. You'll probably be able to finish it before you have to defeat the Elder, which we highly recommend.

When you reach the Swamp biome, though, the Huntsman is the next bow you can make is another leap in power. You'll find that you can hit your target far better than you could with the finewood bow, and it's a reliable choice to take on the creatures in the Swamp and the Mountains biome.

However, the best bow you can use in Valheim right now is the Draugr Fang. Not only does it have the highest pierce damage compared to the other ones, but it also adds a poison damage effect to any arrow you use. It doesn't matter if it's an obsidian arrow, a wood arrow, or a frost arrow. When you hit an enemy using the Draugr Fang, you can expect to see poison damage added to whatever standard damage that lands, and it'll build up over time, consistently harming your opponent.

We expect the Draugr Fang to remain at the top of the bow bracket until a new one is introduced later in the game, once new biomes are added, and the developers continue to work on Valheim's early access.
