Boris Johnson faces grilling on NHS pay rise at PMQs
UP NEXT
Boris Johnson has a long history of being reckless with taxpayers' money.
When Mayor of London he wasted millions of pounds on a failed garden bridge project, forked out a fortune on water cannons which were never used and frittered cash on a cable car that has proved to be a white elephant.
This extravagance has continued since he entered Downing Street.
Money was no object when it came to building a £2.6million briefing room in No10, handing Dominic Cummings a 40% pay rise or lavishing contracts on private firms.
Yet when it comes to rewarding NHS staff for their tireless work during the pandemic the PM claims the state cannot afford it.

If the Government can squander £37billion on a flawed test and trace system it can give NHS heroes the money they deserve.
A decent, acceptable increase in their pay would cost a fraction of the £407billion spent so far on tackling Covid.
Such are Mr Johnson's warped sense of priorities he would rather spend billions of pounds on a bridge between Scotland and Northern Ireland than honour the health workers who saved his life and those of so many others.
A joy to behold
The months of lockdown have been a gruelling time for so many families.
The restrictions have prevented relatives from attending the funerals of loved ones.
They have separated grandparents from their grandchildren and they have left too many people lonely and isolated.
This is why the Mirror led calls for the ban on care home visits to be lifted as quickly as possible.
And it is why the photographs of residents being reunited with their families for the first time in months are so heartwarming.
Flipping frolics
