Mohamed Salah says he hopes Liverpool's win over RB Leipzig can spark a domestic revival, after dismal recent Premier League results.

The No 11 scored midway through the second half to effectively wrap up the tie, with the Reds having secured a two-goal lead from the first leg. Sadio Mane quickly added a second, giving Liverpool only a second win in five matches.

And Salah, while acknowledging that the Reds have had a very difficult season with injuries and misfortune, is looking for this return to winning ways to help last year's champions find their form on a more regular basis.

"[Leipzig are] a tough team, they play football and make us run a lot. We tried our way to press high and counter-attack - and we won, that's the most positive thing. Hopefully we can continue with that in the Premier League as well," he told BT Sport.

"We've tried to have Hendo [Jordan Henderson] at centre-back and Fabinho, but you lose them in midfield. We were unlucky this season but we need to keep fighting.

"It's hard but everybody must give 100 per cent, focus on the next game and not look at the big picture because it can be too much pressure. Leave that off the field and just play football.

"It has been tough in the league but it's part of the game. The last couple of years we were flying, this year we were unlucky."

Salah was guilty of spurning a few chances earlier in the match which might have made the Reds' progression even easier, with Diogo Jota also culpable.

But in the end the pair did combine in clinical fashion - resulting in Salah's 25th goal of the season in all competitions. The Egyptian was pleased to get on the scoresheet once more after missing a few earlier, but insisted the team's progression was the bigger priority.

"I'd love to score more but it's part of the game to miss chances! As long as the team keeps winning that's the most important thing."
