Hyundai teases the 2022 Kona N before revealing all of its details and information.
- Hyundai teases the upcoming Kona N by essentially revealing the entire car
- It's expected to carry over the Hyundai Veloster N powertrain, which would put 275 hp under the hood.
- The Kona N shows off its interesting double wing roof spoiler and massive exhaust tips.
Hyundai might not come immediately to mind when thinking of performance lineups, but the brand did demonstrate a glimmer of intent at expanding beyond the Veloster N last year with a cool mid-engine test mule. While we're probably never going to see a mid-engine Veloster sports car, Hyundai is about to deliver on a sporty compact crossover in the Kona N.
The company is still tight-lipped about the Kona N's essential figures, but it's less concerned with showing off the car early. Still slightly obscured, we can see a lot of what Hyundai is throwing at the Kona N. At the front there are large air intakes, a different lower grille, and LED fog lights. In back, you can't miss the massive-looking exhaust tips and spoiler-and wow, this double-wing beaut will ensure everyone knows that your Kona isn't messing around.
As for power and performance, that's still up in the air. We assume that the Kona N will carry over the Veloster N's powertrain, which would mean the Kona would use a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 making 275 hp, though Hyundai could swap parts or alter tunings. We also doubt that Hyundai will equip the Kona N with a manual transmission, but stranger things have happened.
What we do know is that these questions are sure to be answered when Hyundai officially reveals the Kona N later this year. Hyundai didn't give a specific time for the reveal, but the company promised that the Kona N is coming soon.
